Closed for the Season

Thanks to all the people who came out to the orchard this season! The apples are gone, and we are now closed for the season.

Apples and Honey ready October 1st

Apple picking will start October 1st! Please call to set up a time.  We have a good quantity, but the apples have hail damage, and the wind has blown quite a few off the trees.  They don’t look pretty but the flavor is great. They will make good applesauce and pies.  We will be reducing the price to $15.00 a bushel.  Minimum of a bushel.

Call 785-409-3224 for available times.

Honey will be ready also.

Thanks, Kenny and Cathy

Blackberries are Ripening!

The blackberries are turning slowly this year. There’s LOTS of berries on the bushes, but just turning at different times. We want to make sure there are enough for everyone to pick before coming out so we ask that you call to reserve a time to visit. 785-409-3224

Starting this Friday, July 8, we have times available weekends or weekdays so give us a call.   Thanks for understanding–we want to make sure you have plenty to pick before you head on out here.

2016 Season!

86th Street Orchard is alive and well! This weather has been crazy, but the Blackberries are doing great, and the apples are growing. Sadly, no peaches this year. Blackberries should be ready around the 4th of July. We now have 15 Bee Hives, and the girls are working hard for us. The high tunnel has survived our Kansas winds and the raspberries are coming along nice, but there won’t be any available this year. I will send updates on the blackberries as they grow and ripen.

Closed for the Season

Kenny and I would like to thank everyone who called and came out and picked apples. We enjoyed meeting new friends and visiting with our repeat friends. The apples are pretty much gone for this year. The Orchard is closed for the season.

The high tunnel is almost done, the last thing is to put the top over it, and we are hoping to finish it this week.
I will send more pictures when it is completed and let you know what the plans for the new addition.

Apples this Weekend!

We are opening the orchard this weekend for picking apples before the wind takes all of them.

They taste good but still need some more cool weather.  Please call before you come out to make sure we have the variety you want.

A few things to remember…
We don’t have a picnic area so please don’t plan on having a family reunion, our insurance won’t allow it.  We are strictly classified as a u-pick-orchard.  Also, we do love to have kids out to pick, but need to make sure we limit them to tasting 1 apple each (we’ve had problems with kids taking just one bite and then throwing it down which is wasteful and causes more of a insect problem).  Thanks for understanding. We will have trash containers around.

Please bring your own containers for the apples.

Apple prices are $15.00 a half bushel and $25.00 a bushel.

We hope to hope to have a small bucket for $8.00.

We do have a limited supply of honey this year.  Too much rain for the girls and not enough sunshine.

Thanks for all your calls,

Ken and Cathy

High Tunnel

What would we do without our friends? It only took about an hour to put up the trusses, but you can’t do it by yourself so thank goodness for our super neighbors and friends. This High Tunnel is the newest addition to the Orchard. I will keep you updated as it gets closer to the finished product. Kenny wants to plant raspberries in it for next year.

The Blackberries are done for the year, but the apples are turning and the bees are still working. We hope to have honey in a couple of weeks.

The apples will not be ready until mid to late Sept.

Ripe and Ready

The blackberries are ready for picking. We have a great selection right now, so come on out and pick a few or pick a lot.

The rain didn’t make it too soggy for picking.

Call to come pick blackberries!

Give us a call to make sure, but mid-week looks great for ripe and ready blackberries.

The bushes are loaded so more berries should continue to ripen over the next few weeks.

Just call ahead: 785-409-3224
